A gold miner that was displaced by the former First Lady of Zimbabwe, Grace Mugabe during her late husband’s reign is seeking to evict her and repossess the farm where the mine is located. The miner Mr Langton Chapungu approached the High Court seeking Grace Mugabe’s eviction together with two individuals simply identified in court papers as Tongai and Jemwa.

Since the coup in 2017 that removed Robert Mugabe from power, the former First Family has been dealing with several lawsuits filed against them by farmers and miners who were displaced by the Mugabe’s. The farmers and miners were dispossessed of their land as the Mugabe’s expanded their businesses in Mazowe, the central province of Mashonaland.

The Mugabe family is also facing a similar threat from property owners displaced in Harare to pave way for Mugabe’s Blue Roof mansion in Borrowdale.

The miner seeking to evict Grace Mugabe said the first and second respondent Tongai and Jemwa are carryout illegal mining activities on the land. He also said Mrs Mugabe is carrying out farming activities and has put up some structures on the same land. Furthermore, Mr Chapungu said he was threatened with unspecified action if he continues to disturb them from carrying out their illegal activities on the land.

This bid of eviction is coming just after the provincial mining director of Mashonaland Central called on mining claim owners to get back their farms. Some of these farms also owned by Grace Mugabe are in Manzou, Surtic, Smithfield, Arnold, Yarrowdale, Foyle Estate, Brecon, Bandari, Brundrett, Maggiesdale and Glenbervile.

Furthermore, there are reports that Grace Mugabe will lose one of her properties that forms a part of the Blue Roof mansion in Borrowdale Brooke. The forfeiture of this property is as a result of a high court ruling in favour of the applicants Farai and Nyasha Chitsinde.
