Just two days into the new year, President Donald Trump ordered an Airstrike that killed Qassem Soleimani, the commander of Iran’s Quds Forces.

The drone strike hit Soleimani after he disembarked from an aircraft at Baghdad’s Airport.

Why Qassem Soleimani was killed

Trump justified the strike that killed one of Iran’s most recognizable military commander as a defensive action to protect U.S. personnel abroad.

There are opinions that the airstrike was retaliation after protesters attacked the U.S. embassy in Baghdad.

The Pentagon said Soleimani approved this attack.

Iranians have described the airstrike that killed Qassem Soleimani as an assassination.

All around the world, there are fears that the death of Qassim Soleimani will bring about World War III.

For 3 days in a row, World War 3 trended on social media site Twitter.

Qassem Soleimani is known as Iran’s living martyrs of the revolution in the words of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

He is also the second most powerful person in Iran after Ayatollah.

As a response to the killing of Qassem Soleimani on Iraqi soil, lawmakers in Iraq voted to remove the presence of U.S. troops in the country.

The vote is however not final until the Prime Minister of Iraq signs the bill.

By signing the bill, Iraq will be ending the mission approved in 2014 that allows the U.S. the explicit task of helping Iraqi forces to fight the Islamic State.

That agreement also gave the US substantial latitude to launch attacks and use Iraqi airspace.

Before the airstrike, tension has been high between Washington and Tehran.

The assassination of Qassem Soleimani is the straw that has broken the camels back.

Television footage shows Iranian MPs chanting “Death to America” in a protest on Sunday.

The whole world is currently bracing for Iran’s retaliation which is inevitable.

The US also admits that they are awaiting retaliation within weeks.
